TRADITIONAL METHODS

Traditional sharpening has been split into two separate processes — sharpening and profiling — due to the constraints of free-hand machines and outdated grinding methods. Unlike our competitors who use conventional grinding technologies, we are the only company using CNC machining combined with an advanced laser system for precise shaping and blade imaging. Our technology offers the same level of accuracy trusted by aerospace and automotive industries.

  • What Is It?
    Skate sharpening uses a rotating grinding wheel along the centre of the blade to form two sharp edges. Using different grinding wheel sizes (different hollows) influences the grip and glide performance.

  • Limitations

    Although recent automated solutions have improved efficiency, they still do not address the quality issues associated with traditional sharpening. Both manual and automated methods face challenges in achieving accurate and repeatable surface finishes and edges. There is also the potential that a regular sharpening (automated or manual) will ruin the player’s profile.

  • What Is It?
    The profile shapes the blade’s curvature from heel to toe, determining how much contact the blade makes with the ice. Combining multiple radii offers multiple benefits simultaneously.

  • Limitations

    Traditional profiling typically involves using a template to outline the desired blade shape for a player's hockey skates, followed by a grinding process to achieve that profile. However, traditional methods often lack the precision needed to fully customize the blade's properties to suit individual skating styles.
